Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulatory Officer - Field Based - 31634

The Regulatory Officer role will be based in the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) team within Batteries, WEEE and Shipments, part of Environmental Markets and Regulation. We’re a national team with officers based across England. National travel and overnight stays will be required.

We are looking for professional, enthusiastic people to join our team of Regulatory Officers. You will regulate a range of businesses who operate within the Producer Responsibility regime. Your job will be to ensure that producers, reprocessors and exporters of waste comply with their responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake audits (on-site and virtual)
  • Take appropriate enforcement action when necessary
  • Disrupt non-compliance
  • Collate and analyse complex data to support evidence-based regulation decisions
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information in line with data protection guidelines
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of processes and procedures

The role is varied, vital and challenging. It requires the ability to work as part of a dispersed team while being self-motivated and disciplined.

Team and Context

The team consists of Regulatory Officers, Senior Technical Officers, and Digital Specialists. The department aims to improve recycling quality, monitor industry compliance, and follow the Regulators Code in delivering work to protect and improve the environment by regulating industry and eliminating illegal activities.

Experience / Skills Required

  • Effective, organized, and able to prioritise
  • Rational and composed under pressure
  • IT/computer literate
  • Comfortable with numbers and large data sets
  • Passionate about the environment and willing to learn about environmental regulation and enforcement
  • Ability to handle confrontational situations and adapt communication to others
  • Ability to integrate into a team and record information accurately
