At Disney Destinations International (DDI), we support the Walt Disney Travel Company (International) ecommerce platform and a suite of marketing microsites. Our mission is to create seamless, magical digital experiences for guests around the world. As part of the Application Development team, you will play a key role in maintaining and evolving our bespoke ecommerce platform, ensuring it remains robust, scalable, and aligned with the latest technological innovations.

What You Will Do

As a Web Application Developer within the Application Development team, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of our ecommerce platform, covering both back-end and front-end technologies. You’ll collaborate closely with developers, business stakeholders, and product owners to deliver robust and maintainable software solutions that meet business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the end-to-end development lifecycle, from user interface through to back-end services.
  • Writing robust, fault-tolerant, and maintainable code, applying SOLID principles, object-oriented design patterns, and TDD practices.
  • Managing and maintaining development tools, environments, and hardware to ensure optimal productivity and platform stability.
  • Collaborating on version control, continuous integration, and deployment strategies, leveraging tools such as Git and GitLab.
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting system issues using appropriate logging and diagnostic tools.
  • Exploring and evaluating emerging technologies to keep the platform at the forefront of innovation.
  • Supporting the transition from legacy applications to ASP.NET MVC 5 and .NET Core-based architectures.
  • Identifying and implementing technical improvements to enhance performance, reliability, and scalability.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in a Web Application Developer role, covering both front-end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery) and back-end (C#, ASP.NET MVC5, Classic ASP) technologies.
  • Experience working with ecommerce platforms in a commercial environment.
  • Solid knowledge of SOAP WebServices and RESTful WebAPIs.
  • Familiarity with .NET ORMs such as Entity Framework (or similar).
  • Experience using SDL Tridion (or similar enterprise CMS) is desirable.
  • Proficiency in writing and maintaining unit tests using frameworks such as NUnit or MOQ.
  • Solid understanding of Agile methodology and Scrum ceremonies.
  • Experience using source control (e.g., Git) and issue tracking systems (e.g., JIRA).
  • Experience working in both client-side and agency-side development environments is an advantage.
  • Strong record of achieving project milestones and contributing to successful project delivery.
  • Proven experience building effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, both locally and internationally.

Technical Skills

  • Strong SQL Server and T-SQL knowledge, including query performance optimisation.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and build tools such as TeamCity, GitLab, Cake, or Octopus Deploy.
  • Competent in debugging and resolving performance bottlenecks across applications and databases.
  • Solid understanding of modern web technologies including HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • Ability to identify and implement areas for improvement across codebase and workflow.
  • Methodical approach with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to tight deadlines.
  • A solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to work autonomously and within a team.
  • Strong organisation skills and a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present effectively in person and virtually.
  • Confident using business tools including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Zoom.
  • Eagerness and aptitude to quickly learn new systems and tools.

Additional Information

  • Flexibility to travel within the UK, Europe, or internationally may be required.
  • Some out-of-hours work may be necessary to meet business demands.
  • Occasional contribution to wider business or ad-hoc projects may be expected.
