Overview
West Yorkshire Police is seeking a visionary and accomplished finance professional to lead our Business Development Accounting Function. As part of the Finance and Commercial Services Directorate Senior Leadership Team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, efficient, and effective financial services that support strategic decision-making across the Force. This is a unique opportunity to influence the financial direction of one of the UK's largest police forces, supporting not only West Yorkshire but also the National Police Air Service and regional collaborations.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of strategic financial insight and analysis.
- Manage a team of five direct reports, including senior and assistant accountants.
- Oversee data quality, analytics, and management information functions.
- Drive continuous improvement in financial systems and reporting.
- Represent the Directorate in high-level strategic forums and external partnerships.
- Maximise income generation through grants, sponsorships, and commercial opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and non-statutory financial reporting requirements.

Qualifications
- Significant post-qualification experience in a large, complex public sector organisation.
- Proven ability to influence and advise at Chief Officer level.
- Deep understanding of public sector funding, accounting policies, and legislative frameworks.
- Exceptional leadership, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Experience in developing financial strategies and modelling techniques.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
