Enable is one of Scotland's leading charities, comprising three pillars: enable cares, enable works, and enable communities.
We deliver community projects, campaigns, health and social care support, and employability and training across Scotland.
Enable Communities has launched a new Community Youth Project for children and young people with learning disabilities, delivered in 8 areas of Scotland. The project involves designing and delivering weekly groups for ages 8-12, 13-15, and 16-18, supported by Youth Coordinators. The goal is to help young people with learning disabilities build friendships, confidence, and skills.
These groups aim to provide young people with time away from family, fostering independence and self-esteem. Activities will be fun and challenging, promoting social networks, communication, motivation, confidence, and mental health coping strategies.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Establish and initiate ENABLE Scotland's youth programme regionally, building relationships with local stakeholders, marketing, and developing networks to encourage participation.
- Deliver weekly sessions for the different age groups and regular weekend activities.
- Provide an inclusive, engaging curriculum supporting young people with additional support needs, focusing on independent travel, social skills, confidence, and community involvement.
- Engage parent volunteers, supporting vetting and compliance with volunteer policies.
- Partner with and plan activities in local communities to develop skills and improve mental and physical health.
- Support young people individually in using ENABLE Scotland's travel training app and developing independent travel skills.
- Engage young people and stakeholders in local campaigns.
- Ensure all activities meet regulatory and compliance standards, including health and safety and child protection.
- Perform any other duties necessary to deliver the programme.
