Overview
2026 Graduate Programme - Energy - Transition at WSP. We are recruiting graduates for our Energy Transition team, with opportunities across the UK and overseas in multi-disciplinary services from Thermal Transition to Renewable Power Generation.
Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical deliverables such as pipeline routing, piping design, CCGT specification, steam systems, and carbon capture plant integration.
- Develop process plant layouts and review UK and international standards to ensure compliant designs.
- Assist in proposal development and contribute to project development from concept through to constructed plant.
- Interact with clients and attend site visits; participate in site inspections on existing assets and visits to new developments.
- Perform static and dynamic analyses of structures; design structures primarily in steel and concrete; prepare project documentation, drawings and specifications; develop 3D models.
- Support feasibility studies, technical and environmental assessments, and long-term operational management services where applicable.
Projects
- Carbon capture plant integration on existing combustion plants (e.g., CCGT, waste to energy).
- Green Hydrogen generation plant design (e.g., PEM-based hydrogen production).
- New CCGT plants being designed and installed globally; upgrades to existing gas networks.
- Pipeline routing studies for large distribution networks; design and review of electrical and gas distribution projects; onshore wind turbine foundations; solar PV and battery storage projects.
- Design and review of new electrical substations in the UK and related inspection work.
Energy Transition Teams
Thermal Transition: Transition from thermal power to renewable energy with activities including design of wind/solar developments, carbon capture projects, battery storage and energy distribution; projects decarbonising UK electricity generation, gas transmission, hydrogen and carbon capture & storage.
Renewable Power Generation: Expertise across offshore wind, onshore wind, onshore solar and battery storage; involvement across project life cycle from design to delivery and client engagement.
Graduate Development Programme
Two-year programme designed to support personal and professional development through blended learning, core business skills, mentoring for professional registration, and on-the-job experiences. Graduates are encouraged to pursue chartered status and may join the ICE Training Agreement.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
- You will have graduated with at least a 2:2 master’s degree in a relevant subject. If you don’t meet every criterion, apply and we can discuss alignment to this role and other opportunities.
- Candidates should be ready to start in April or September 2026 and have a passion for consulting, a desire for structural engineering and design, and an enthusiasm for creativity and problem solving.
- Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders, and adapt to dynamic project environments.
