Advanced Clinical Practitioner Prescriber role at The Pudding. Based at Rossendale Minor Injuries Unit (RMIU).

Post: Advanced Clinical Practitioner Prescriber
Pay: £27.49 - £30.63 per hour depending on experience
Hours: 34.5 hours per week across 3 days; 4 week rolling rota
Accountable to: Head of Service
Reports to: Lancashire Clinical Managers
Base: Rossendale Minor Injuries Unit (RMIU). The RMIU aims to deliver services between 8am–8pm, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Evening and weekend work will be required.

Closing date: 2 November 2025

Location details and working pattern reflect requirements of an urgent care setting and may involve flexible hours as part of service delivery.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Exercise clinical expertise, judgment, discretion and decision making in clinical care within agreed parameters.
  • Provide high standard of care for patients presenting with undifferentiated minor injuries and illnesses.
  • Develop clinically with mentoring and training to extend competencies in illness or injury for the right candidate.
  • Work with and champion the unit in conjunction with Senior Managerial colleagues.
  • Support the Management team and Clinical Manager to meet service KPIs/targets and seek improvements beyond set commissioned targets.
  • Ensure mandatory training is up to date and undertake suitable training/CPD for ongoing development.
  • Practice autonomously as an independent practitioner, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment/referral and discharge of patients within agreed parameters.
  • Provide advanced clinical skills and advice with evidence-based practice in management of a client group while working autonomously.
  • Identify need for and interpret relevant diagnostic investigations and results.
  • Safely undertake invasive and non-invasive procedures to establish diagnosis.
  • Independently undertake telephone triage on weekends as part of CAS (Clinical Assessment Service); training provided.
  • Work within current nurse prescribing legislation.
  • Lead improvements to standards of care through supervision, clinical audit and teaching.
  • Contribute to Clinical Governance by leading audit and research within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Act in accordance with the NMC Code or other relevant professional body.
  • Provide professional and clinical advice within the multidisciplinary team.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Relevant professional qualification; experience of working independently as an unsupervised practitioner in primary/urgent care; experience in telephone triage and remote prescribing.
  • Teaching and mentorship; up-to-date CPD portfolio.
  • Able to work in demanding environments; develop clinical leadership skills; diplomacy and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency with IT packages (e.g., Microsoft Word/PowerPoint); knowledge of current clinical and professional issues; awareness of impact of evidence-based practice in unscheduled care.
  • Ability to collaborate with multi-agency and interprofessional resources to manage risk.

  • The Post Holder Will: assess, treat, and advise patients; supervise clinical team; refer to other team members as needed; ensure safety and competence boundaries; work at an advanced level of practice; undertake investigations and manage minor injuries; lead audit and evidence-based practice; participate in governance and professional development.
  • Role model standards of care and professionalism; analyse policy impacts, implement changes, and evaluate processes; maintain CPD and professional registration; prescribe within competency and guidelines.
  • Maintain NHS policy and NICE guidance knowledge; promote workforce integrity; manage workload; ensure appropriate resource use; advocate for patients and carers; implement best practice and national standards.

Education and Training

  • Identify own development needs; develop patient information leaflets; ensure supervision needs are met; contribute to clinical governance outcomes; apply confidentiality guidelines; participate in clinician progression and provide feedback; assist in locality training and development; contribute to research and dissemination; promote multidisciplinary collaboration and effective communication.
  • Take steps to minimise conflict and ensure safe communication with patients and carers.

Health and Safety

  • Comply with safety policies and business continuity plans; responsible for risk assessment and incident reporting; maintain awareness of infection control and COSHH; manage challenging situations and hazards.

  • DBS check required (three forms of valid ID); occupational health check and references; eligibility to work in the UK.
