Role Overview
The Director, Product Design is a senior leadership role responsible for setting the strategic direction of the product design team, ensuring alignment with business goals, and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. Reporting to the VP, Product Design, this role oversees multiple product design teams and plays a key role in delivering user-centered, scalable, and accessible design solutions across Choreograph’s suite of products.
Strategic Leadership
- Define and implement a cohesive design strategy that supports Choreograph’s business objectives and product vision.
- Set priorities for the product design team, ensuring alignment with the company’s roadmap and goals.
- Advocate for user-centered design across the organization, balancing business needs with usability and accessibility.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align design efforts with technical, operational, and strategic requirements.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead and manage a team of Associate Directors (Senior Designers), Managers (Designers), and Senior Associates (Junior Designers).
- Provide mentorship and guidance to team members, fostering their professional growth and ensuring high-quality design outcomes.
- Oversee resource allocation across design projects, ensuring the team operates efficiently and delivers on time.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, creativity, and continuous improvement within the design team.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Partner closely with product managers, engineers, and business leaders to ensure alignment between design, product, and technical requirements.
- Represent the product design team in senior leadership meetings, contributing to the overall product vision and strategy.
- Act as a key design advocate, influencing decision-making at all levels and ensuring user needs are prioritized.
Research & Data-Driven Design
- Collaborate with the Product Design Research team to incorporate user insights into design strategies and decisions.
- Leverage analytics and behavioural data to identify opportunities for improvement and measure the impact of design changes.
- Promote a culture of experimentation, encouraging teams to use A/B testing and prototyping to validate new ideas.
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
- Define and track key design metrics (e.g., usability, accessibility, and user satisfaction) to evaluate the team’s impact.
- Foster an iterative design culture, ensuring products evolve based on user feedback and emerging opportunities.
- Stay up to date on industry trends and emerging design practices, ensuring Choreograph remains at the forefront of innovation.
Skills And Experience
- 8–10+ years of experience in product or UX design, including leadership roles managing design teams. Familiarity with the media industry—particularly in areas such as insights, planning, activation, or analytics solutions—is a plus but not required.
- Proven experience leading large, cross-functional design initiatives and delivering impactful results.
- Strong UX/UI expertise, with a deep understanding of interaction design, information architecture, and accessibility principles.
- Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD, with experience in design systems.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and articulate design strategies.
- A collaborative mindset, with experience navigating complex, matrixed organizations.
- A track record of fostering team growth and building a strong design culture.
- Familiarity with data-driven design processes, including the use of user research and analytics to inform decisions.
- Experience working in agile environments, with a focus on iterative design and rapid prototyping.
