An exciting new opportunity has arisen at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to lead the automation implementation programme. The post will manage the formation of a new technology service and deliver the full scope of automation services, ensuring technical considerations meet the efficiency demands of the Trust.

The post holder will work across departments and at all levels of the organisation, understanding the operational pressures of healthcare services within a secondary care NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage a small team of automation developers and business analysts, identifying opportunities for automation and benefits realisation.
  • Prioritise team deliverables and adoption of new technologies and tools, aligned with Trust objectives.
  • Measure and track benefits realised to report to the Head of Data Systems on efficiencies made.
  • Communicate effectively with heads of departments and services to develop a strong reputation for the automation team.
  • Show keen interest and understanding of the latest automation technologies and the technical complexities of adoption, particularly in a healthcare setting.
  • Lead the professional development of the team, maintaining high and consistent standards of processes and documentation.

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Masters level education or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD activity
  • Experience as an operational or strategic manager in a relevant field

Desirable criteria

  • Leadership and People Management qualification
  • Project Management qualification
  • RPA certification
  • IT Service Management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Project management experience
  • Experience influencing staff at all levels to ensure project objectives are owned by all team members including users and stakeholders
  • Experience involving teams in analysis and solution development; ability to persuade teams to adopt new ways of working and challenge the status quo
  • Experience in a demanding environment with conflicting priorities
  • Experience developing collaborative relationships with stakeholders
  • Practical experience of managing automation lifecycle, patient and administrative workflow, template and protocol design

Desirable criteria

  • Experience delivering automations using NHS applications including non-clinical/administrative systems
  • Experience of financial and workforce management

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work within agreed timeframes
  • Project management skills with experience working with agile and diverse engineering teams
