Overview

This role involves the full range of business development activities in the Maritime, Offshore & Trade (MTO) practice group. You will advise and support partners and associates on the strategic direction of marketing, business development and client development activities, work on pitches and proposals, and lead on events, award and directory submissions, and communications. You will report to the Senior Business Development Manager in London and work with the Senior Business Development Executive supporting the group. You will be part of a wider network of business development and marketing professionals worldwide with team members primarily in London responsible for BD, media relations, web and communications, events, and CRM.

Main Responsibilities

  • Pitches, proposals and tender submissions: deliver high-quality bids and proposals; collaborate with the wider international BD team; develop strong key selling messages for the practice; drive bid feedback and client insights; monitor updating and maintaining pitch support material (credentials, templates, CVs).
  • Events: assist practice groups with events (client seminars and social events); monitor events budget and ensure BD spend stays within budget; coordinate sponsorships and partnerships.
  • Internal and external communications: manage information on websites, intranet (QUEST) and newsletters; prepare briefing notes, newsletters and distribute materials for MTO London.
  • Legal directories and awards submissions: manage directory submissions and deadlines; draft awards and directory submissions; maintain the directories log; coordinate research interviews and liaise with partners, researchers and clients as required.
  • Marketing literature: create, amend and update profile sheets/CVs; liaise with designers; proofreading of marketing literature; upload and maintain documents on the intranet.
  • Business planning and implementation: understand practice group offerings; explore cross-selling; coordinate the MTO BD plan; support firm-wide BD initiatives and develop campaigns to profile sector offerings.
  • Client relationship management: stay informed of client issues; support development of client relationship skills; undertake client research and analysis; support global key client programmes and CRM responsibilities for one or more clients; liaise with lawyers on external publications and content for client materials.
  • General BD team coordination and support: represent BD at practice group meetings; manage marketing lists and CRM for BD activities; conduct research on clients, competitors and industry trends; monitor brand compliance; update memberships and directory listings; maintain BD storage and support international BD teams.

Qualifications

  • Graduate with relevant marketing and business development experience in a professional services firm; experience of bids in a professional services environment; ability to manage multiple cross-practice/cross-office responses.
  • Confident, robust, pragmatic and easy to work with; strong written communication with attention to detail and ability to influence senior people.
  • Well-organised with high-quality delivery under pressure and tight deadlines; proactive, enthusiastic, collaborative team player.
  • Innovative, open to new ideas, with ability to challenge where necessary; commercially aware and able to add value to BD thinking.
  • Good skills in using BD tools (Vuture, InterAction) and English language fluency (verbal and written).
  • Previous experience working for a UK law firm (preferred).
