Help us create a better future, quicker
A strong and resilient community energy sector is essential to achieving a just transition and meeting the devolved and UK Government’s Net Zero targets.
We are looking to recruit a dedicated resource in Scotland to focus on delivering our Community Energy Strategy that supports our communities’ energy ambitions in Scotland.
SP Energy Network’s Distribution business plan (RIIO-ED2), which runs from 2023 to 2028, sets out our vision for our expansive electricity network that can meet the challenge of Net Zero and lays out our commitments on how we will serve more than 3.5m homes and businesses across Scotland, England, and Wales. Our plans included a commitment to develop a small Community Energy Team who act as a central point of contact for community anchor organisations and communities looking to develop local energy schemes.
The dedicated team support communities with the relevant information as well as ensuring that they receive the right technical advice and optioneering options. They also signpost them to impartial, local support organisations, local energy planning activities and hand-hold local groups in need of additional support through our connections process.
The community energy team:
- Prepare a Community Energy Strategy plan to clearly show how we will embed community energy thinking across our business and have this annually reviewed.
- Our strategy is independently reviewed every year to make sure we are learning as we go and adjusting to changes in the external environment.
- Build upon existing and further develop self-help tools, proactively raising awareness of them.
- Work in partnership with local support organisations to deliver community energy awareness campaigns at scale and educational outreach activities to raise knowledge and awareness of the changes coming to the energy sector and how individuals and their communities can participate and benefit.
- Create an annual Community Energy engagement plan, setting out who/how best to deliver information, and remain flexible and innovative in our approach.

- Ensuring that all Community Energy engagement activity is captured and recorded within agreed corporate systems.
