This is an exciting opportunity to work with a team of fleet specialists to support delivery of these ambitious fleet targets and drive tangible change. Within a team of contract professionals, you will deliver a varied work programme of purchase and service contracts on behalf of the Environment Agency and our Defra Partners. You will work with colleagues across the organisation to identify business needs, set contract strategy, and lead tender including award of contracts.

As a member of the Contracts, Performance & Risk Team, you will work with contract managers overseeing the contracts through the whole lifecycle, working with suppliers to reduce their environmental footprint, maintain a cost‑effective, and deliver our legal and health & safety responsibilities. Excellent relationship management and influencing skills are critical.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will receive training and participate in incident support as required.

Responsibilities

  • Set contract strategy and lead tender processes, including award of contracts.
  • Oversee contract lifecycle in collaboration with contract managers.
  • Manage supplier performance to meet environmental, cost, and safety objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Respond to incidents and support incident management as required.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across the organisation and with suppliers.
  • Influence and persuade internal and external stakeholders.
  • Forward‑thinking with a proactive approach to identifying opportunities and risks.
  • Good commercial acumen and experience in contract procurement.
  • Experience of the procurement processes within Defra is desirable.

Location and Working Arrangements

The role is fully flexible. You may work from EA offices, attend national meetings, and travel as required. The position is full time; other working patterns will be considered.

Interviews will be conducted via MS Teams in mid to late November 2025.
