Overview

Deliver fleet services for the Environment Agency and Defra Partners as part of Defra Group Fleet Services (DGFS). The role supports the organisation’s net‑zero strategy by managing contract performance, influencing suppliers to reduce their environmental footprint, and maintaining cost‑efficient fleet operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement contract strategy for purchase and service contracts.
  • Lead tender processes, award contracts, and manage supplier performance throughout the contract lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify business needs and set contract objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, health & safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Respond to incidents and support incident training initiatives.
  • Influence internal and external stakeholders to achieve contract and fleet objectives.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Commercial acumen and the ability to collaborate with colleagues and suppliers.
  • Influence and persuade internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and risks and drive forward improvement.
  • Experience of procurement processes within the Defra Group is desirable.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Assessment Questions

You will be asked to answer three competency questions. For each competency you will give a written example (no longer than 250 words). The competencies are: Innovation and Quality, Influence and Persuade Others, and Take Decisions and Solve Problems. No CVs will be assessed.

Location & Working Arrangements

Flexible location. You may be required to work in EA offices and attend national meetings, with the possibility of overnight stays. Remote working is acceptable, and full‑time employment is the default role.
