Overview

We are looking for a skilled credit controller to be solely responsible for overseeing credit and cash collection for French-speaking customers. The candidate will ensure timely payments, mitigate financial risk, minimize bad debt provision, maintain strong customer relationships, and work closely with the commercial and other finance teams.

This role is hybrid with the requirement to be in the office located in Billericay 3 days per week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday). Thursday and Friday will be work-from-home days. The role is a 15-month fixed-term contract to cover a period of maternity leave.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a portfolio of French-speaking customer accounts.
  • Monitor and chase outstanding debts via phone, email, and written communication.
  • Review daily banking and provide allocations to the Treasury department.
  • Create daily aged debt reports and keep the file up to date with the latest chase information.
  • Onboard new retailers, perform credit checks, and establish appropriate credit limits.
  • Work with the commercial team to ensure credit limits support peak sales and promotions.
  • Manage and own responsibility for credit limits and assessing current exposure to maintain maximum exposure on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Identify disputes and queries and follow up for resolution.
  • Prepare refunds and write-offs with full backup for approval by Credit Manager.
  • Weekly and monthly reporting on debtors.
  • Ensure compliance with company credit policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and reporting as assigned.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fluent English and French speaking and writing.
  • Proven experience as a credit controller or in a similar role.
  • Proficient in accounting software including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams).
  • Self-motivated with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Preferred but not essential knowledge of French financial regulations and payment practices.
