Our client is a leading renewable energy developer with a strong focus on battery energy storage systems (BESS). With a ready-to-build and advanced pipeline of BESS projects across Europe’s most attractive markets, they are expanding their technical team to cover all aspects of the BESS lifecycle, from greenfield development through to operations.

Location: This role can be based in London/Edinburgh. The company offers flexibility, provided you are able to work from one of these offices at least three days per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and evolve the internal knowledge base of equipment supply and design options for BESS projects
• Monitor new BESS products and technologies as they come to market
• Build and maintain relationships with design/engineering counterparts at equipment suppliers (batteries, inverters, MV transformers, switchgear, control systems, HV equipment)
• Support development teams with site/project evaluations and provide feasible, efficient layouts considering planning, constructability, and space constraints
• Assist with contract completion, particularly technical appendices
• Oversee detailed design/engineering deliverables with consultants and subcontractors, ensuring scope is delivered as planned
• Review and contribute to the approval of design packages for construction
• Coordinate technical queries with suppliers, subcontractors, and consultants during design, selection, financing, and delivery stages
• Support negotiations on warranties and technical supply terms
• Implement detailed project plans, managing risks, goals, resources, schedules, and costs
• Proactively mitigate risks and resolve technical issues during development and construction
• Support the commissioning process and help resolve technical challenges
• Prepare regular project progress reports including risk status and scope deviations
• Support design and cost optimisation across EPC categories

Experience & Qualifications

• Degree (BSc/BEng/MEng/MSc) in electrical, mechanical, or related engineering discipline from a leading university
• At least 5 years of engineering experience in energy, ideally in storage and renewables
• Proven track record in technical design, specification, or assessment of energy projects (with preference for storage/renewables) and supplier evaluation
• Familiarity with contract details, warranties, and infrastructure interfaces with commercial agreements
• Experience in HV equipment components advantageous
• Knowledge of key supply terms in commercial contracts
• Strong working knowledge of project management and engineering design software
• Prior experience in energy consultancy is welcome
