Overview

Angus Housing Association (AHA) invites applications for the role of Director of Finance & Corporate Services. The position is based in Arbroath with hybrid working available. Salary: £84,000 starting, increasing incrementally to £93,332.

Hutcheon Mearns is partnering with AHA to recruit this role due to the upcoming retirement of the current postholder. AHA has been part of the Angus and Dundee communities for over 50 years, managing more than 2,100 properties, supported housing units, and factoring services. The organisation emphasises collaboration, openness, respect, adaptability, financial resilience, and a commitment to staff development alongside excellent tenant services.

This is a hands-on leadership role within the Senior Management Team to safeguard financial sustainability while shaping strategy and supporting change.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee financial management, long-term planning, and treasury functions
  • Prepare and oversee statutory returns, annual accounts, and regulatory submissions
  • Ensure strong governance, compliance, and risk management; manage financial systems and internal controls
  • Lead HR, IT, pensions, and insurance functions
  • Guide and develop a small, capable team (3 direct reports, overseeing a team of 6)
  • Manage funding processes for new build and investment projects; assess cashflow impact
  • Provide clear, timely, high-quality reporting to the CEO, Board, and regulators

The Candidate

  • Qualified Accountant with significant senior experience in finance, ideally within housing, public, or third sectors
  • Strong track record in financial planning, compliance, and audit
  • Experience managing teams and developing staff
  • Ability to explain complex financial issues clearly to different audiences
  • Confidence in leading change and improving processes
  • Professional, pragmatic approach that fits an open and supportive culture

What’s On Offer

  • Salary: £84,000 – £93,332 (six-point scale; starting at £84,000 with automatic 2% annual increments until full rate, plus annual cost-of-living awards)
  • Car allowance totaling approximately £1,500 per annum
  • Hybrid and flexible working – 35 hours per week (Mon–Fri, 1 day WFH)
  • Opportunity to accrue up to 19 days of flexi-time annually
  • Defined contribution pension – AHA matches up to 10% employee contribution
  • 29 days holiday plus 11 bank holidays
