We are seeking a Manager to lead our Economic Crime Unit (ECU), which is part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the ECU and provide strategic direction for managing financial investigations to fulfil obligations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
  • Provide strong leadership, motivating and developing your team; manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer, with a focus on performance and delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC); influence senior stakeholders to align with Environment Agency priorities.
  • Support the wider organisation in continuous improvement and increasing understanding of POCA; share lessons learned, contribute to changes in technical documentation, and advise other enforcement officers nationwide.
  • Work with the two ECU teams (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigations Team), comprised of Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts; operate as a nationally dispersed team dealing with serious and complex criminality.

Experience / Skills Required

  • Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience in leading a dispersed team.
  • Good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act.
  • Experience in at least:
    • Working in the law enforcement sector and understanding the National Intelligence Model
    • Effective communication, including delivering feedback, managing performance and building relationships with external stakeholders
    • Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
    • Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
    • Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and the individuals within it
  • Contact and additional information: hybrid working from home and nearest office; travel across the country for meetings and operational duties; incident response is a central part of the role and may attract additional payment; training and workplace adjustments available.
