Overview

We are seeking a Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals. The ECU Manager will provide strategic leadership for financial investigations under POCA, with a focus on continuous improvement and collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the management of financial investigations to comply with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
  • Lead and develop two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer; manage performance and delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC) to influence senior-level priorities and enforcement actions.
  • Support the wider organisation by improving processes, sharing lessons learned, updating technical documentation, and advising enforcement officers nationwide on POCA matters.
  • Contribute to the two-team structure of the ECU (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigations Team) consisting of Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, and Crime Analysts.
  • Share expertise to increase understanding of POCA legislation and continuously improve working practices and capability within the team.

Experience / Skills

  • Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team, and a good understanding of financial investigations and POCA.
  • Experience in the law enforcement sector and understanding of the National Intelligence Model.
  • Strong communication skills, including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise a varied workload, and identify areas for improvement to lead changes in working practices.
  • Experience developing and enhancing the capability of a team and individuals within it.
