Ecosystem Development Manager

New Yesterday

Overview

Syli - pronounced SOO-Lee - supports mission-driven journalism in service of informed audiences around the world, with a specific focus on climate activities. We are a recently established UK community interest company. We aim to ensure everyone has access to equitable, trustworthy, and accurate information, and we support impact-focused journalism by fostering forward-looking concepts and sustainable financial models. We are creating a healthier, more sustainable media ecosystem for better informed global audiences who are empowered to take action for the benefit of all people, communities and the planet.

Role: Ecosystem Development Manager. This is a critical role in driving our global journalism initiative forward and turning internal strategies into external action. Within a growing team of creative and development professionals, this role is a facilitator and connector, responsible for building, organising and marshalling a network of collaborative organisations around the world poised to share our mission and deliver impact. Public broadcasters, media houses, influential organisations and news agencies will be drawn into the work we are doing to make climate a relatable part of news outputs and conversations around the world. This role is suitable for an adaptable candidate who excels at shaping, building and managing partnerships, facilitating communication, and identifying opportunities for mutual benefit within the ecosystem. Key measures of success include growth, successful collaborations, cohort building and ultimately impact in changing how climate stories are told globally.

The position is a hybrid role, primarily remote with in-person meetings in London and Guildford in Surrey (within commutable distance). In-person meetings may be up to 6-8 times a month. You must have the right to work in the UK and be able to provide a suitable professional and confidential environment with reliable internet access. The position is part time (three days a week), with defined days or defined hours spread across Syli’s core working days (Monday to Friday). This is a fixed term contract ending 31 August 2026, with potential extension depending on funding. The pay is £30,000 (£50,000 FTE) per year.

Responsibilities

  • Relationship Building: Establishing and nurturing connections with key players in the ecosystem, across media and institutions that communicate climate information to the public.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Identifying and developing strategic alliances or cohorts to drive growth and innovation within the ecosystem.
  • Community Engagement: Organising events, workshops, and activities to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among ecosystem members.
  • Opportunity Identification: Recognising and capitalising on potential collaboration and strategic opportunities for Syli and its partners.
  • Communication and Advocacy: Promoting Syli’s vision and values and advocating for its interests across various territories.
  • Performance Tracking: Monitoring and reporting on the performance of the ecosystem and its key initiatives.

Qualifications

We have identified what you’ll need to know and be able to do, and what experience you’ll have, to do well in this role. A background in a partnership-building role or similar in a small or rapidly growing organisation is essential, preferably in an international organisation.

  • Strong organisational and time management skills; able to create and meet deadlines, set goals and milestones, manage projects, and prioritise tasks.
  • Capable verbal and written communicator; clear written and spoken communication with accurate spelling and grammar, and effective listening.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to prioritise and respond to emerging needs with a proactive, problem-solving approach.
  • Record of engaging and building relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Experience of facilitating successful collaborations.
  • Experience organising and guiding community-building activities.
  • Strong organisational and coordination experience; process-driven with attention to detail, able to follow procedures and use systems, and implement new ones.
  • IT skills: proficient with Google Workspace and collaboration tools.
  • Self-motivated: able to take initiative and perform tasks with minimal supervision in a predominantly remote-working environment.
  • Professional and reliable; maintains appropriate workplace demeanour, upholds confidentiality and responds calmly to stress and changing priorities.
  • Excited to support the growth of a new initiative in the journalism and climate space.
  • Experience in ecosystem mapping and analysis.
  • Proven ability to design and implement strategies that foster innovation and collaboration across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience coordinating with policymakers or regulatory bodies to align ecosystem growth with relevant frameworks or incentives.
