Overview
Syli - pronounced SOO-Lee - supports mission-driven journalism in service of informed audiences around the world, with a specific focus on climate activities. We are a recently established non-profit (UK community interest company) seeking to foster equitable, trustworthy, and accurate information and to advance impact-focused journalism through innovative concepts and sustainable financial models.
We are creating a healthier, more sustainable media ecosystem for better informed global audiences who are empowered to take action for the benefit of all people, communities and the planet. We are looking for an Ecosystem Development Manager to drive our global journalism initiative forward and translate internal strategies into external action.
Responsibilities
- Relationship Building: Establishing and nurturing connections with key players in the ecosystem, across media and institutions that communicate climate information to the public.
- Strategic Partnerships: Identifying and developing strategic alliances or cohorts to drive growth and innovation within the ecosystem.
- Community Engagement: Organising events, workshops and activities to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among ecosystem members.
- Opportunity Identification: Recognising and capitalising on potential collaboration and strategic opportunities for Syli and its partners within the ecosystem.
- Communication and Advocacy: Promoting Syli’s vision and values and advocating for its interests across multiple territories.
- Performance Tracking: Monitoring and reporting on the ecosystem and its key initiatives.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with a background in partnership building in a small or rapidly growing organisation, preferably in an international context. The following qualifications and experiences are desirable:
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to set deadlines, milestones, manage projects, and prioritise tasks.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with accurate spelling and grammar and active listening.
- Flexibility and adaptability, with a proactive, problem-solving approach to emerging needs.
- Experience engaging and building relationships with senior stakeholders; experience facilitating successful collaborations.
- Experience organising and guiding community-building activities; strong organisational and coordination capabilities.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures, use systems, and implement new ones.
- IT skills: proficient with Google Workspace and collaboration tools.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously in a remote environment.
- Professional and reliable; maintains confidentiality and composure in changing priorities.
- Excitement to support the growth of a new initiative in journalism and climate space.
- Experience in ecosystem mapping and analysis; ability to design and implement strategies that foster innovation and collaboration across diverse stakeholders.
- Experience coordinating with policymakers or regulators to align ecosystem growth with relevant frameworks or incentives.
Job Details
The position is for an immediate start and is a part-time, three days per week, hybrid role (primarily remote with in-person meetings in London and Guildford, Surrey). In-person meetings may be up to 6-8 times per month. You must have the right to work in the UK and access to a suitable professional environment with reliable internet.
Contract type: Fixed term ending 31st August 2026, with potential extension pending funding. Salary: £30,000 per year (£50,000 FTE).
