About the Team

This Principal Business Solutions Architect position works with the ICT team to ensure the technology and data required across the Corporate Group (e.g., HR, Finance, Communications, Customer Contact) align with ICT strategy.

Purpose of the Role

The Business Solutions Architect (BSA) defines the business strategy for ICT and acts as a key interface between ICT and other Ofcom groups. Responsibilities include building strong relationships across the organisation, creating strategic roadmaps, collaborating to define ICT strategy, assessing requirements, and overseeing delivery of technical solutions. The BSA facilitates ICT-technical team interactions, conducts discovery workshops, and manages relationships with key software vendors, providing updates on opportunities and risks.

Your key responsibilities

  • Lead ICT’s engagement with stakeholder Groups at Ofcom (primarily the Corporate Group) to develop strategic roadmaps.
  • Architect, design and oversee the implementation of Communication/Web/Finance and HR capabilities.
  • Collaborate with corporate teams to produce business cases for developing ICT capabilities.
  • Contribute to prioritisation decisions for projects in the ICT portfolio.
  • Monitor technology trends in key platforms to identify opportunities and risks to operating capabilities.
  • Collaborate with senior colleagues in the ICT team to manage demand from the business.
  • Work with the business to optimise operational capabilities of existing solutions.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the overall ICT strategy and define solutions that comply with Ofcom’s architectural principles (e.g., promote re-use, ensure value, cloud-first, secure by design).
  • Participate in ICT governance processes to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and security of delivered solutions, including the ICT Design Authority.

The skills, knowledge and experience you will need for success

Technical Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Practical experience in creating IT Strategy and aligning it with business and Group/Function Strategy.
  • Ability to work in technical design and system analysis roles across architectural domains (Business, Data, Application, Technology and Security).
  • Experience in managing third-party vendors, escalations, understanding roadmaps and working with cross-functional teams in complex initiatives.
  • Experience in designing end-to-end solutions that utilise cloud-based business and data applications and other innovative technologies.

Communications, HR & Finance

  • Good working knowledge of the operational processes of Communications, HR and Finance functions.

Expertise in one of the following technical areas

  • Demonstrable knowledge of Digital Experience (DXP)/Content Management Systems (e.g., SiteCore, Adobe, Optimizely). Familiarity with DevOps processes and Azure DevOps, ensuring solutions meet performance, scalability and security requirements.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Workday (HCM, FINS, Payroll) or similar (SAP, Dynamics, Oracle) and the design methods used for low-code/no-code solutions.
