You will interact with other departments across the company to help customers maximise the value of Applied products and represent the customer internally to positively steer future development and influence product strategy. The role focuses on providing general support across the Applied motorsport customer base, primarily to independent customers competing in WEC, IMSA, Formula E, IndyCar, MotoGP, and may provide additional support to other customers during peak periods.

Purpose Of The Role

The Field Application Engineer will support customers’ use of Applied hardware, embedded software, off-car configuration and data analysis software. This role may include worldwide travel, unsocial hours and weekend work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support at the track, remotely and at customer premises.
  • Represent the customers viewpoint within Motion Applied.
  • Work with internal teams to push through issue resolution.
  • Assist with improving departmental procedures and knowledge base.
  • Take on development projects as required and drive these forward with minimal supervision.
  • Diagnose hardware and software problems, probing problems to understand whether it is a system failure or its environment.
  • Recognise opportunities to add value with additional Applied products or solutions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Accurately interpret observations noted in the field to advise solutions or escalate appropriately.
  • Diagnose hardware and software problems under pressure with a detailed and methodical approach.
  • Good communicator with the ability to capture information quickly and accurately.
  • Good understanding of the electronic elements of motorsport systems and powertrains, including typical sensors and actuators used in motorsport.
  • Experience of working trackside in a motorsport environment.
  • Experience with tools such as MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow; data analysis tools like ATLAS; ECU set-up tools such as System Monitor; Excel VBA.
  • Knowledge of one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C++, C#).
  • Graduate-level education with a minimum of an Upper Second-Class Honours Degree (2:1) in a relevant engineering discipline, with equivalent experience considered.
