Finance Business Partner at The National Museum of the Royal Navy

Pay Range

Salary (Grade 7): £45,767 per annum (full time). Hours: 30 – 37.5 hours per week (permanent). Hybrid working available – minimum of 2 days per week in the office. Location: National Museum of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

Summary

Reporting to the Financial Controller, and working alongside the existing two Finance Business Partners, you will become an integral member of the Finance Reporting team which is responsible for providing expert financial advice, strategic support and constructive challenge to business budget holders, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective financial planning, and supporting wider team members and budget holders in driving commercial performance and financial sustainability in the delivery of our strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Act as lead financial support for designated business areas, particularly in delivery of projects and commercial activities.
  • Support budget holders in the development of robust business plans, setting budgets, monitoring and recording activity, preparation of month‑end reports, commentaries and reporting packs.
  • Work closely with and report directly to budget holders and the Executive.
  • Represent the Finance and Resources directorate at key meetings with Trustees and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and skills: Fully qualified accountant (CCAB/CIMA) with evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
  • Tech fluency: Advanced Excel, solid MS Office skills; experience with BI tools or dashboarding platforms is a plus.
  • Excellent collaborator: Able to present complex financial information for Trustees and staff at various levels in an accessible way, draw insights, challenge constructively and make recommendations.
  • Comfortable building models from scratch: Interrogating large datasets and spotting the story behind the figures to provide ad hoc financial modelling and scenario analysis to underpin projects across the National Museum.
  • Solution‑driven mindset: Essential for influencing business planning through sound financial advice.
  • Champion improving business processes: Streamline how we work, spot process pain points and lead optimisation initiatives that save time and money.
  • Able to work autonomously: Also contributing to a busy and highly professional finance team.
