UK Financial Controller – WH Scott Group

We are supporting a global financial services firm in the appointment of a Financial Controller to oversee the financial operations of their UK business. This is a high-impact role, ideal for someone with experience in insurance or financial services, looking to take ownership of financial reporting, compliance, and operational finance in a growing international organisation.

About the Role

As Financial Controller, you will manage the day-to-day financial operations and reporting for the UK business, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. You will work closely with the Group Corporate Controller and senior leadership, providing insights to support strategic decision‑making and business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the financial reporting process, ensuring compliance with UK/US GAAP and IFRS
  • Manage month‑end and year‑end close, including reconciliations, accruals, and preparation of financial statements
  • Supervise a small finance team, with scope to expand over time as the business grows
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to inform strategic financial planning
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities, ensuring accuracy and efficiency
  • Maintain and enhance internal financial controls to mitigate risk and improve operational processes
  • Manage bank reconciliations and ensure accurate reporting of cash positions
  • Prepare for audits and liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies
  • Implement and improve financial systems and processes to drive efficiency
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership

Requirements:

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in corporate accounting, preferably within the insurance or financial services sector
  • Strong knowledge of UK GAAP, IFRS, and FCA financial regulations
  • Experience with insurance brokerage accounting, including premium accounting, is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Oracle, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines
