Job Title: Financial Controller

Contract Type: Interim

Pay: £300 PAYE

Hybrid Working: 3 days in Office, 2 days from Home

Job Summary:

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee all financial operations. This role is pivotal in financial planning, reporting, cost control, compliance, and strategic financial management.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Manage daily operations of the finance and accounting department
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Oversee cash flow, forecasting, and working capital
  • Ensure compliance with FRS101 and internal accounting policies

Job Costing & Project Accounting

  • Implement and maintain job costing systems to monitor project profitability
  • Collaborate with project managers to track costs, billing, and margins
  • Review and approve project budgets and financial change orders

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead annual budgeting and mid-year reforecasting processes
  • Provide financial modelling and scenario analysis for strategic planning
  • Support department heads with financial insights and cost control

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure adherence to tax regulations, audits, and industry-specific standards
  • Liaise with external auditors, banks, and regulatory bodies
  • Strengthen internal controls and financial procedures

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff (e.g., AR/AP clerks, accountants)
  • Evaluate and improve accounting systems and software tools
  • Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA)
  • 5+ years of progressive finance experience, including 2+ years in a senior role
  • Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, and project accounting
  • Proficiency in financial software (e.g., IFS, SAP, Oracle or similar)
  • Advanced Excel skills
