About the job.

National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Asset Management division within Operations. As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will predominantly develop feasibility studies for renewals and/or improvements, including the compiling and checking of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, considering new techniques, materials, buildability and costs.

This role can be based from either our Bristol or Exeter offices on a hybrid basis.

Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full driving licence, with no more than 3 points, to be considered for this position.

  • Activities and resources involved in the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.
  • Development of CD622 geotechnical reports.
  • Prepare briefs and support delivery of survey works, including ground investigation specifications, that support the renewal and/or improvement of assets.
  • Preliminary design of Geotech renewals and maintenance schemes.
  • Development of forward works programme.

About you.

  • Degree in Civil Engineering / Geology or a qualification of a similar discipline.
  • Membership of a professional body (e.g. ICE) or working towards membership (essential)
  • Demonstrable experience in geotechnical engineering and/or engineering geology with excellent knowledge of ground investigation techniques / experience in scoping ground investigations and developing ground models
  • Proven ability in producing geotechnical reports including desk studies and interpretative reports, preferably with a good knowledge of CD622 reporting process.
  • Knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards, methods of working & Specification for Highway Works.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
