Role overview
As a Global Field Service Winding Engineer, you will be responsible for on-site inspection, testing and repair of the stator, rotor and exciter windings of large high voltage electric generators.

Responsibilities

  • Perform winding inspection, electrical testing, maintenance and repairs on Generator HV windings on customer sites globally.
  • Carry out basic mechanical strip-down (and rebuild) of machines to access generator windings.
  • Carry out electrical testing on high and low voltage windings in the field.
  • Carry out visual winding inspections of the stator, rotor and excitation system.
  • Carry out in-situ generator winding repairs including stator re-wedge work.
  • Work as part of a team for on-site stator strip and rewind operations.
  • Assist mechanical service engineers on assignments, which may not involve winding activities.
  • Supervise and train internal and external customers.
  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications and requirements; prepare method statements and detailed reports for customers. Attend technical meetings on site and at customer premises.
  • Conduct on-site risk assessments for each assignment and document results.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as directed by the Field Service Manager.

Qualifications and skills

  • Accredited Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification or relevant experience; minimum qualification via a recognised Craft apprenticeship in stator winding on large HV rotating electrical machines.
  • Experience working on competitors’ equipment is advantageous.
  • Competence in soldering, brazing, crimping and HV insulating procedures.
  • Self-sufficient, resourceful and a problem solver with high levels of energy and strong character.
  • Effective communication skills; fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to undertake extensive overseas and offshore work for protracted periods.

Working patterns
