Join to apply for the Group Accountant role at Affinity Water

We’re looking for an experienced Group Accountant to join our Finance team on a 12-month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. This is a key role in leading the Group’s internal and external financial reporting, working closely with our Financial Reporting and Control Manager.

At Affinity Water, you’ll be responsible for driving the accuracy and integrity of our consolidated accounts across holding companies, subsidiaries, and dormant entities – ensuring we remain compliant with IFRS and regulatory standards. You’ll also lead on year-end statutory accounts, half-year reporting, and the quarterly consolidated dashboard, providing clear and insightful commentary.

What you’ll be doing

  • Preparing and analysing consolidated and entity financial statements in line with GAAP and IFRS
  • Managing intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and eliminations
  • Coordinating and overseeing the annual audit process with external auditors
  • Partnering with the Tax Manager and advisors to ensure tax compliance
  • Supporting the implementation of robust controls under the UK Corporate Governance Code
  • Line managing the Balance Sheet Accountant, reviewing journals, VAT submissions, and reconciliations
  • Driving process improvements and embedding best practice across financial reporting
  • Project-managing the APR and AR process, keeping the team on track with key milestones

What we’re looking for

  • A qualified finance professional (ACA/ACMA/ACCA/MBA) with strong post-qualification experience
  • Proven experience as a Group Accountant or in a similar financial reporting role
  • Excellent technical knowledge of accounting principles and IFRS
  • Strong analytical skills with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
  • Skilled communicator who can influence, challenge, and build positive relationships across teams
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and uphold the highest standards of accuracy and professionalism
  • Confident IT skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and Oracle systems

This is a great opportunity to step into a high-profile role within our finance function, gaining exposure across the Group and shaping how we deliver financial reporting. You’ll work in a supportive, collaborative team with the flexibility to split your time between Hatfield Head Office and remote working.
