Overview
Our Chief Commercial Office have the new opportunity to join them as Head of Commercial Banking
This role will bring to life the Group’s Commercial Banking business with full accountability for the national Relationship Management team including the leadership roles of Head of Regions (North, South & Midlands), Business Development & Customer Relationship Support.
The role will include working with product heads to define and implement segmented propositions for our identified target customers, to deliver an improved customer service proposition and to re-balance the customer base via optimised delivery channels.
It will produce the strategy and business plans for Commercial Banking function whilst identifying and implementing market leading customer outcomes that are routed in our customer principles and standards and aligned to the Groups strategic plan.
Understanding a diverse customer needs and market trends to improve what is offered to create a better customer experience and sustainable returns will be key as well as being responsible for the identification and management of risks and controls in line with risk appetite and policy.
The role will also translate strategy and business plans for team members and define objectives for the management team that ensure delivery of these (customer service, balance sheet management, profitability, liquidity, capital management, risk, colleague development and engagement etc.) over the short and medium term.
The role holder will put our members and customer‘s first, bringing significant experience in Commercial Banking and understanding the regulatory and commercial context to achieve growth and success.

This role can operate from either our Head Office campus in Coventry or our Manchester office but as a Group role, travel to both locations will be required. A team-led hybrid working arrangement is in place.

Responsibilities
- Lead the national Relationship Management team including the leadership roles of Head of Regions (North, South & Midlands), Business Development & Customer Relationship Support.
- Define and implement segmented propositions for identified target customers in collaboration with product heads to improve customer service and re-balance the customer base via optimised delivery channels.
- Develop and implement strategy and business plans for the Commercial Banking function, identifying market leading customer outcomes aligned to customer principles, standards and the Group’s strategic plan.
- Understand diverse customer needs and market trends to enhance what is offered and deliver sustainable returns, while managing risks and controls in line with risk appetite and policy.
- Translate strategy into team objectives and ensure delivery across customer service, balance sheet management, profitability, liquidity, capital management, risk, colleague development and engagement in the short and medium term.
- Maintain a customer-first approach and apply significant commercial banking experience to achieve growth within regulatory and commercial contexts.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role it’s essential you have:
- Proven financial services leadership experience in a senior-level Business or Commercial Banking role
- Experience of commercial bank lending across a range of sectors, with large loan lending experience
- Experience of working with credit risk on large lending cases, strategy development & oversight
- Experience of developing and delivering strategy and associated business plans.
- Expert knowledge of the regulatory requirements and rules that govern business activities
- Demonstrable expertise in commercial management
- Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills, capable of translating complex challenges into actionable insights.
- Exceptional leadership and interpersonal abilities, with a track record of fostering cross-functional collaboration and influencing
- Experience of operating in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment with multiple high-priority demands
- Adept at managing relationships, securing stakeholder buy-in, and driving alignment across diverse teams
Desirable experience will be:
- Evidence of leading through an integration
- Skilled at navigating shifting priorities and evolving market conditions in a dual organisational setting
