Overview
Head of Engineering - Performance at Fresha. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer and working with the Head of Product, you will oversee the quality of service delivery, processes and lead the Performance engineering teams at Fresha. This is a fast-paced, dynamic role requiring collaboration, a readiness to take on challenges and a strong impact from day one.
All Fresha employees work from our dog-friendly office four days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely one day each week. London office address: The Bower, The Tower, 207 Old St, London EC1V 9NR.
Fresha is the leading marketplace platform for beauty and wellness, trusted by millions of consumers and businesses worldwide. Fresha enables consumers to discover, book and pay for beauty and wellness appointments, while merchants use an all-in-one platform to manage operations with subscription-free software and fintech solutions.
The Fresha ecosystem provides the tools needed to run a business: appointment bookings, point-of-sale, customer records, marketing automation, loyalty, inventory and team management.
Role responsibilities
- Create and implement an engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to improve business performance.
- Ensure engineering strategies and processes meet business objectives in terms of price, quality and delivery targets; enable the company to function effectively in the market.
- Ensure strong communication between squads to deliver consistent user experiences across the marketplace and implement changes and improvements.
- Input and responsibility for engineering budgets.
Team management
- Provide clear leadership and vision, inspire and motivate teams.
- Set ambitious, achievable goals that maintain tech standards.
- Ensure teams understand expectations and accountability.
- Mentor and coach Tech Leads to be exceptional squad leads and motivate their reports.
- Balance product and technical requirements seamlessly.
- Track performance regularly through team meetings and one-on-one catch-ups.
Priorities and decision making
- Delegate confidently and effectively.
- Collaborate with the CTO to set standards and priorities for the engineering department.
- Review and adapt processes as the company scales.
- Make timely, effective decisions when required.

Skills, experience & qualifications
- Experience leading a large, high-achieving engineering function, including building and scaling teams.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Experience in a start-up or scale-up, ideally in a consumer brand.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and a strong understanding of relational databases.
- Extensive knowledge of engineering practices and problem-solving methods.
- Experience building mission-critical systems.
- Experience with multiple programming languages.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to interact with people across the business and influence relationships upward.
- Willingness to roll up sleeves and assist the team when required (team player).
- Self-starter and proactive approach.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and changing environment.

Interview process
- Screen call – Video call with a member from the Talent Team (45-60 minutes).
- 1st stage – Video/in-person interview with CTO & Head of Product (up to 90 minutes).
- 2nd stage – Video/in-person interview with VP of Engineering & Chief People Officer (up to 90 minutes).
We aim to finalise the entire interview process and deliver feedback within 4 weeks.
