Utilising recognised health and safety quality frameworks, the Head of Health and Safety will monitor and coordinate the management of an effective and compliant health and safety function within the University. This role, based within Legal & Compliance Services, is focused on ensuring the University’s compliance with health and safety legislation while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The role will be required to review and develop appropriate strategies, policies, procedures and staff training and development, ensuring a progressive health and safety culture is promoted and maintained.

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to provide strategic leadership and expert guidance on health and safety matters across the University. Utilising recognised health and safety quality frameworks, the Head of Health and Safety will monitor and coordinate the management of an effective and compliant health and safety function within the University. This role, based within Legal & Compliance Services, is focused on ensuring the University’s compliance with health and safety legislation while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The role will be required to review and develop appropriate strategies, policies, procedures and staff training and development, ensuring a progressive health and safety culture is promoted and maintained.
Responsibilities
- provide effective leadership and management of the Department of Health and Safety and its team.
- provide pro-active health and safety management advice to all Faculties and Departments of the University in order to ensure their and the University\'s compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation and best practice guidance from within the profession and industry.
- This is a strategic post supported by the University Council and Senior Management Team. The role holder will line manage staff within the Health & Safety Department. The role holder will ensure value for money in all activities in accordance with the University\'s financial regulations.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Excellent relationship building and communication skills to engage positively with staff, students, contractors and visitors. You will also be able to communicate to colleagues clearly. Attention to detail and accurate, meticulous record keeping is important.
- Experience leading health and safety across a large organisation and implementing recognised quality frameworks.
