Overview
Head of Membership & Development | Location: Remote within the UK | Salary: The full-time salary for this role is £63,259 per annum. This role is currently full-time (35 hours per week) until July 2026. The role will then reduce to 28 hours per week thereafter (0.8 FTE, salary pro-rated accordingly).

About the role
Make a real impact in Higher Education. Advance HE has expertise that is valued worldwide by leaders in higher education. You\'ll help us share it by building and nurturing exceptional relationships with institutions across the UK, though predominantly in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England.
Your ability to engage these institutions, build trusted relationships at the most senior levels, and work internally to develop solutions to their challenges, will help drive our growth.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with a portfolio of member institutions and sector stakeholders
- Represent Advance HE as a trusted partner and point of contact for members
- Use expert knowledge of the UK higher education sector to deliver value to members and partners
- Initiate consultative conversations to identify needs and opportunities
- Generate commercial leads and create proposals for consultancy projects in collaboration with colleagues
- Secure opportunities that deliver measurable value and impact for members
- Ensure members understand, access, and utilise the full range of membership benefits
- Combine relationship management with business development to grow Advance HE's commercial income in line with charitable aims
- Lead on delivering clear engagement and business development targets for membership and commercial services
- Develop and manage high-level client and partner relationships across the UK, including devolved nations
- Apply creative, analytical, and nuanced approaches to maximise member retention, income generation, and impact delivery
Qualifications
- Commercial acumen and an enterprising outlook
- Experience of business development such as generating leads, creating proposals and securing income
- The confidence and credibility to speak in public and to hold strategic conversations with senior leaders
- Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills, including the ability to use video conferencing and online tools effectively day to day
- Excellent listening skills and an ability to troubleshoot and solve problems to achieve high levels of client satisfaction
