Responsibilities

  • Be at the heart of one of the UK’s most impressive infrastructure programmes and influence health, safety and wellbeing culture across major civil engineering projects, including HS2 and beyond.
  • Embed the ‘Safe at Heart’ ethos, ensuring safety is a core value, not just a priority.
  • Be visible on site and build strong relationships with contractors to jointly address issues, drive improvements, and coach delivery teams on safety practices.
  • Call out unsafe behaviours or conditions when needed and provide guidance and support to the wider delivery team.
  • Lead with passion, proactive engagement and collaboration across all levels of the organisation, balancing compliance with leadership and practical on-site actions.
  • Spend around three days a week on-site, working with civils contractors to coach teams, influence positive behaviours, identify risks, support investigations, and ensure compliance with health, safety and security standards.
  • Promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion across activities and teams.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • NEBOSH Construction certificate essential
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health, safety and security legislation
  • Proven experience in health and safety within major infrastructure or complex programmes
  • Ability to build positive relationships and work collaboratively with contractors and stakeholders
  • A professional qualification in Health and Safety or equivalent experience
  • Experience in/ability to assist with the production and review of technical reports including assurance and investigation reports
  • Comfortable working around plant and site operations
  • Logical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
