NES Fircroft is representing a leading cabling and engineering client seeking an experienced Health and Safety (HSE) Advisor to support a key infrastructure project. The role will be based in both Peterhead and Spittal, with time split between the two locations. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring health, safety, and environmental compliance across the project.

Outside IR35 Role Summary The HSE Advisor will ensure all construction site activities are carried out safely and in compliance with UK legislation. The role involves monitoring safety procedures, identifying and mitigating risks, and supporting emergency preparedness. The goal is to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all personnel. Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with UK health, safety, and environmental legislation (including CDM 2015).
- Support and promote client and contractor HSE management systems.
- Provide guidance and coaching to site teams on safe working practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety tours.
- Review and approve contractor Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Manage online induction platform and ensure training completion before site access.
- Facilitate site orientation and communicate safety protocols.
- Promote hazard and near miss reporting and ensure timely corrective actions.
- Manage and monitor PPE usage and compliance.
- Assist with incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Maintain accurate safety records and compile monthly HSE reports.
- Ensure environmental protection, especially in sensitive areas.
Success Criteria
- All personnel are inducted and trained before starting work.
- High engagement in safety activities and reporting.
- Timely completion of inspections and resolution of issues.
- Zero serious incidents or breaches of legislation.
- Positive feedback from stakeholders on HSE performance.
- Personnel feel supported and involved in maintaining safety.
Qualifications and Experience
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
- Relevant degree or HND in Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Management (desirable).
- Training in root cause analysis, temporary works supervision, first aid, and mental health (desirable).
- Minimum 5 years of HSE experience in construction or high-risk environments.
- Experience in incident investigations and safety briefings.
- Knowledge of underground and overhead service safety (HSG47 and GS6).
Skills and Competencies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proactive and approachable with ability to build relationships.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Confidence to challenge unsafe behaviors.
- Calm under pressure and solutions-focused.
- Commitment to safety leadership and continuous improvement.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital HSE platforms.
- Able to compile data-driven reports and presentations.
