Overview

As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence‑led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems, to build a greater understanding of the Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protect officer safety. This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training and promote the use and benefits of Memex and improve the quality of intelligence submitted.

You will provide face to face training to area staff on our Intelligence system, MEMEX, provide support and training to enable area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches, supervise intelligence logs to ensure high standard of quality in submissions, create entities from Memex submissions, and provide regular reports on performance with feedback on ways to improve. You will ensure high standards of quality of intelligence submissions. Other duties that are commensurate with the role.

Team

The Intelligence Team manages and develops all criminal intelligence for the Environment Agency. Made up of several roles and disciplines, we build and maintain strong relationships with our partners to work as one enforcement community and drive our intelligence‑led approach to tackling environmental crime across many regimes. The team provides a professional and timely service and is focused on continuously improving how we do things to meet our customers’ needs.

Experience / Skills Required

  • Self‑motivated and proactive with a good understanding of Intelligence and Intelligence systems
  • Ability to advocate for an intelligence‑led approach and embed across teams
  • Excellent influencing skills, ensuring Memex use is the norm and safety checks are mandatory
  • Ability to build strong, effective relationships and deliver engaging, inclusive training
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to give feedback on intelligence submission performance
  • Strong self‑management and organisational skills
  • Great teamwork to support colleagues in achieving common goals

Contact and Additional Information

You will need to be comfortable with working in a dispersed team. Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working, but travel to Birmingham and other offices will be required on occasions. Interviews will be via Microsoft Teams and are expected to be in October.
