Overview

As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence-led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems, to build a greater understanding of the Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protect officer safety. This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training and promote the use and benefits of Memex and improve the quality of intelligence submitted. You will provide face to face training to area staff on our Intelligence system, MEMEX, and provide support to enable area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Memex training and promote the use and benefits of MEMEX to area teams.
  • Improve the quality of intelligence submissions submitted by area staff.
  • Provide face-to-face training on MEMEX and support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches.
  • Supervise intelligence logs to ensure a high standard of quality in submissions.
  • Create entities from Memex submissions and provide regular reports on performance with feedback for improvement.
  • Maintain high standards of quality in intelligence submissions and perform other duties commensurate with the role.
  • Support flexible working patterns and clearly communicate preferred working arrangements.
  • Respond to incidents as part of the team, with potential for additional payment and full training; alternate working arrangements available to support the incident role.

Team and Environment

The Intelligence Team manages and develops all criminal intelligence for the Environment Agency. It collaborates with partners to drive an intelligence-led approach to tackling environmental crime and continuously improves services to meet customers’ needs.

Experience / Skills Required

  • Self-motivated and proactive; able to demonstrate a good understanding of intelligence and intelligence systems.
  • Ability to advocate for an intelligence-led approach and embed it across teams.
  • Excellent influencing skills; promote memex use as standard with mandatory safety checks.
  • Proven ability to build strong, effective relationships and to deliver engaging, inclusive training.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to give feedback on intelligence submission performance.
  • Strong self-management and organisational skills; good team-working to support colleagues.

Location, Working Arrangements and Travel

You will need to be comfortable with working in a dispersed team. Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and other offices will be required on occasions.
