Overview

As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence-led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems, to understand Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protect officer safety. This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training, promote the use and benefits of Memex, improve the quality of intelligence submissions, and provide face-to-face training on our Intelligence system, MEMEX. You will also provide support and training to enable area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches, supervise intelligence logs, create entities from Memex submissions, and provide regular performance reports with feedback for improvement.

You will be required to respond to incidents as part of your duties, with options for additional payment and full training, and alternative working arrangements available to support your incident role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Memex training to area teams and promote the use and benefits of Memex to improve intelligence quality.
  • Deliver face-to-face training on MEMEX and support area staff in submitting intelligence and conducting searches.
  • Supervise intelligence logs to ensure high standards of quality in submissions.
  • Create entities from Memex submissions and provide regular performance reports with feedback for improvement.
  • Maintain high standards of intelligence submissions and assist with other duties commensurate with the role.
  • Respond to incidents as part of the on-call/incident role and participate in business continuity during incidents (may attract additional payment).

Experience and Skills/Qualifications

  • A good understanding of Intelligence and Intelligence systems.
  • Ability to advocate for an intelligence-led approach and embed it across teams.
  • Excellent influencing skills to ensure Memex use is the norm and safety checks are mandatory.
  • Proven ability to build strong, effective relationships and deliver engaging, inclusive training.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide feedback to improve intelligence submission performance.
  • Strong self-management and organisational skills.
  • Good teamwork to support colleagues in achieving common goals.

Location, Working Arrangements and Requirements

  • Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and other offices will be required on occasions.
  • Interviews via Microsoft Teams are expected in October.
