Overview

Investment Analyst – Fixed Income at Manulife (UK/EU).

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Head of European Corporate Finance and working closely with senior team members, function as a fixed income investment professional, screening and identifying new investment opportunities and preparing and presenting these opportunities and their merits to the broader investment team across geographies.
  • Ongoing and periodic review of individual investments in the portfolio.
  • New Investment Opportunities: apply credit and transaction analysis, understand Manulife's credit approach, and screen European private and public transactions for credit, relative value and portfolio needs. Become knowledgeable about European markets and Manulife activity across fixed income asset classes. Interact with UK/European public bond bookrunners and internal stakeholders; private transactions include EMTNs, USPPs, European private placements, schuldscheins, and project financings. Advise on merits of opportunities to the broader group.
  • Support business development to expand Manulife\'s European coverage, researching and developing investment strategies and parameters, and presenting targeted companies with financing needs aligned to cash flow, credit quality and duration. Develop understanding of tax and regulatory considerations across Manulife entities.
  • Collaborate with sector analysts in Boston, Toronto, and Asia on credit and transaction analysis and work toward taking on European sectors and credits. Contribute to advisory discussions for portfolio management across offices; strong communication and collaboration with analysts, PMs, tax, and legal teams in multiple geographies.
  • Investment Administration: manage a portfolio considering diversity, duration, capacity and credit risk; monitor and communicate sector/company developments in a timely manner. Specific responsibilities include:
    • Monitor portfolio composition and credit risk, communicating developments to team members, credit analysts, portfolio management and trading as appropriate.
    • Assess corporate actions including tenders or changes to investment terms/conditions.
    • Identify public and private credits presenting interesting investment opportunities for Manulife.

Qualifications

  • Strong interest in developing fixed income investing and credit analysis skills.
  • Undergraduate degree with exceptional GPA and high academic achievement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects; strong project management and collaboration skills, including coordinating with legal, accounting and portfolio teams to move work forward.
  • Proactive, with a desire to learn and contribute to a growing team.
  • Willingness to pursue an MBA or equivalent and/or the CFA designation (preferred).
