Lawyer (Interventions Team) – Financial Conduct Authority
This role provides legal support to the Retail 4 Enforcement teams, advising on interventions to prevent harm, triage serious misconduct for investigation and cancel firms failing to meet threshold conditions.
Compensation
National salary range:
- Edinburgh and Leeds: £47,200 – £59,000 per annum
- London: £49,700 – £62,000 per annum
Salary will be based on skills and experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Progress a portfolio of demanding interventions often with tight deadlines
- Advise on evidential sufficiency, identify key legal and regulatory risks, and make judgments and recommendations
- Draft intervention documentation including statutory notices, legal advice notes and tribunal documents
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues in other areas and with external bodies
- Contribute to internal training and knowledge sharing

Qualifications

- Qualified lawyer with a valid practising certificate issued by the Solicitors Regulation Authority for England and Wales (if a solicitor) or the General Council of the Bar for England and Wales (if a barrister) or a similar internationally recognised qualification
Essential skills and experience:
- Ability to analyse complex evidence and determine warranted action and further evidence needed
- Capacity to learn new or novel legal issues quickly and with enthusiasm
- Strong solutions‑oriented mindset, delivering pragmatic, outcome‑focused advice
- Confidence in advising and challenging appropriately in a reasoned manner
- Work at pace, under pressure, prioritising competing workstreams to meet deadlines
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Judgment and ability to defend judgements where necessary
- Build and maintain effective working relationships across the FCA and external bodies
- Manage a varied, dynamic, urgent caseload while maintaining progress across cases
