Legal Counsel (Construction)

East Midlands

Hybrid Working

Permanent

Sellick Partnership is pleased to be supporting a leading UK construction and engineering company in their search for a Legal Counsel (1–4 PQE) to join their in-house team on a permanent basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a small, collaborative legal function and to help shape the way legal services are delivered across the wider group. The successful candidate will support on a variety of high-value projects across industrial, multi-room, civils and infrastructure sectors, working directly with project teams and senior stakeholders.

The role would suit a qualified solicitor with a strong grounding in commercial contracts and an interest in construction law, whether gained in private practice or already in-house.

As Legal Counsel, your role will include, but is not limited to:

  • Reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements
  • Drafting template documents, policies, and guidance materials
  • Advising and assisting project teams across the business
  • Supporting the business in managing risks and avoiding disputes
  • Managing claims (including insurance claims) and liaising with external counsel as required
  • Delivering legal training to commercial, design, and operational teams
  • Helping to devise and implement processes to support projects and mitigate risks

Responsibilities

  • Be a qualified solicitor (1–4 PQE) with experience in reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements
  • Ideally have some experience in construction law (though this is not essential)
  • Be pragmatic, approachable, and commercially minded, with excellent communication skills
  • Enjoy working as part of a team and building relationships across the business

Benefits

  • Competitive salary (dependent on experience)
  • 26 days of annual leave
  • Excellent training and development opportunities within a supportive working environment

This is a fantastic opportunity for a junior lawyer to build their in-house career with a major UK construction and engineering business, gaining exposure to high-value and complex projects of national importance.
