Legal Counsel – Rightmove
Location: London / Hybrid (office days Weds & Thurs, rest work from home)
Overview
Rightmove is the UK’s favourite property platform, aiming to give everyone the belief they can make their move. We’re looking for a Legal Counsel to join an experienced legal team that values collaboration, commerciality, and clear communication.
Responsibilities
- Commercial Contracts: review, draft, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements in a fast‑paced tech environment, focusing on software, SaaS, marketing and data protection.
- Intellectual Property & Brand Protection: support enforcement and brand protection efforts to safeguard the company’s assets.
- Dispute Resolution: handle low‑level disputes and pre‑litigation matters, resolving issues directly and identifying practical, business‑friendly solutions.
- Legal Operations & Process Improvement: maintain and improve legal tools and workflows, including contract management systems, and embrace AI and technology to enhance efficiency.
- Inbox & Business Support: triage and address legal queries efficiently, simplifying complex issues and establishing clear expectations.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration: collaborate with teams across the business to provide timely and effective legal advice.
- Compliance & Risk Management: stay current with relevant laws, maintain legal templates, playbooks, and training materials.
Qualifications
- Qualified solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent). Minimum 1 year PQE, ideally with in‑house experience or leading law firm exposure.
- Law degree, completed SQE, and close to qualification with at least two years’ legal experience in commercial work – no training contract offered.
- Strong interest in working in‑house at a fast‑paced, technology‑led company.
- Enthusiastic, hungry to learn, not afraid to get stuck in.
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
- Clear communicator, able to explain legal concepts simply and effectively.
- Aggie, commercial mindset, organised, adaptable, and comfortable juggling multiple matters.
- Team player, proactive and solution‑focused.
- Interest in legal tech, including AI, and willingness to use tools to drive efficiencies (plus).
