About The Role
The Legal Counsel is responsible for ensuring that our commercial agreements are clear, compliant, and strategically structured. This role supports sustainable growth and builds strong partnerships, enabling SFG20 to fulfil its mission of making buildings better.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including SaaS, software licensing, reseller, partnership, and enterprise customer contracts.
- Provide pragmatic legal advice and solutions to the CRO and sales managers to support deal structuring, risk assessment, and contract closure.
- Lead negotiations with customers, suppliers, and technology partners, ensuring contracts are commercially sound and compliant.
- Support international contracting by advising on cross-border agreements and compliance with relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Identify, assess, and manage legal and commercial risks, balancing the need for business agility with sound risk management.
- Maintain and enhance standard contract templates, negotiation playbooks, and approval processes to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Collaborate with finance, product, and operations teams to ensure contractual alignment with internal policies and business objectives.
- Manage relationships with external counsel and provide guidance and mentoring to the in‑house paralegal.
Essential Experience
- UK-qualified solicitor (or equivalent) with 3‑6 years post‑qualification experience in commercial and technology law.
- Proven experience negotiating SaaS, software licensing, and technology agreements within a B2B environment.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage a varied workload within a small, fast‑paced legal team.
- Strong understanding of data protection, cloud services, and software licensing models.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly to non‑legal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to balance commercial objectives with effective risk management.
- Confident working directly with senior stakeholders, including the CRO, sales leadership, and executive team.
- Proactive, pragmatic, and commercially minded, with a solutions‑focused approach to problem‑solving.
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting international contracting and multi‑jurisdictional negotiations.
- Familiarity with data governance, AI, and emerging technology regulations.
- Experience managing external counsel and/or mentoring junior legal professionals.
All candidates must be able to demonstrate a pre‑existing right to work and travel within the UK. We are unfortunately not able to offer sponsorship. Documentary evidence will be required.
