This role will be hybrid based in London however we will expect travel across the UK on a regular basis.

The Role

As an Associate Director in M&A, you’ll be driving Sumer’s growth by sourcing, shaping and executing the acquisitions that fuel our future. Think: speaking directly with business owners, working with Sumer’s ExCo and Board, and leading transactions end-to-end, from first coffee chat through to signing on the dotted line.

What you’ll get up to:

• Early engagement with target businesses, from research and screening through to initial conversations
• Overseeing initial analysis of preliminary information
• Contributing to the development of deal proposals (pricing, structure etc)
• Leading the execution phase of the deal process, managing multiple diligence workstreams and the legal process through to completion
• Building strong relationships with vendors, advisors, introducers, Sumer’s ExCo and Board, regional leaders and target management teams
• Partnering with wider Sumer functions (finance, integration, risk, compliance and ops) to ensure smooth deal execution
• Coaching and developing members of the M&A team to support internal progression and capability building

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking an experienced M&A professional with the skills, commercial judgement and leadership qualities to thrive in a fast-growth, entrepreneurial environment.

Experience & Technical Skills

• Solid M&A experience (corporate development, corporate finance, transaction services - we’re open).
• Strong understanding of deal structuring, negotiation and the diligence process.
• Familiarity with legal documentation and key commercial terms in transactions.

Mindset & Leadership

• Commercially astute with the ability to adapt approach to different circumstances.
• Trusted relationship-builder who can influence and engage at senior levels.
• Innovative thinker with the ability to solve problems creatively.
• A leader who’s as comfortable coaching others as well as rolling up their sleeves
