Mechanical Design Engineer
Orion is working with a leading manufacturing company with over 75 years in business that has been a leader in high–performance pressure and flow control systems for decades. They serve critical applications across Defence, Industrial Gas, and Energy sectors globally. After winning a large defence contract, they are now seeking several Mechanical Design Engineers with a varying range of experience to join the team.
The Role of Mechanical Design Engineer:
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will contribute to both customer–driven projects and internal initiatives. Your responsibilities will include 3D modelling and 2D drawing creation in SolidWorks, performing technical analyses using hand calculations and engineering tools, and generating detailed technical documentation. You'll also collaborate with cross–functional teams in prototyping, testing, and problem–solving during the production lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer
- Develop 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
- Perform technical analysis using in–house tools, MathCAD, and ANSYS.
- Apply geometric and dimensional tolerances to technical drawings.
- Support the development and testing of prototypes.
- Work closely with QA and Manufacturing teams to address production issues.
- Interpret and apply customer specifications to designs.
Required Experience & Skills for the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D and 2D design work.
- Strong analytical capabilities, including hand calculations and use of analysis tools (e.g., MathCAD, ANSYS).
- Solid understanding of engineering materials and manufacturing processes.
- BEng degree in Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 3 years of mechanical design engineering experience.
- Experience with pressure equipment design is desirable.
- Prior exposure to UK defence projects is a plus.
- Full Right to Work in the UK.
