This is a temporary 12 month contract position. Pay rate: £17-30 per hour depending on level of experience. Location: Glasgow (hybrid working, 3 days in office).

What you’ll do

  • Oversee all aspects of UK payroll cycles by ensuring strict adherence to internal controls and current legislation for each payroll run.
  • Maintain robust partnerships with external payroll vendors to guarantee seamless service delivery and compliance with agreed standards.
  • Foster open communication channels with senior leadership by proactively raising awareness of potential or actual issues as they arise.
  • Enhance the payroll control framework by regularly reviewing processes in line with SOX requirements and internal governance protocols.
  • Stay abreast of evolving payroll legislation and proactively plan for future changes that may impact payroll operations or compliance.
  • Manage key metrics reporting to optimise resource allocation across the team and identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Take responsibility for governance and oversight of timely, accurate disbursement of all payroll-related payments via BACS systems.
  • Liaise effectively with internal and external auditors by facilitating system access for sample testing and providing clear evidence of key controls.
  • Ensure all documentation relating to payroll processes is up-to-date, reflecting any legislative or procedural changes promptly.
  • Monitor employee queries through web-based tools to ensure they are resolved efficiently within agreed service level agreements.

What you bring

  • A minimum of two years' experience managing UK payroll at mid-senior level within a professional organisation.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel to analyse data sets and prepare detailed reports.
  • Experience in payroll controls, risk management, governance ownership, stakeholder engagement, and vendor management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of employment law, PAYE legislation, statutory accounting principles, deferred compensation schemes, and share awards administration is desirable.
  • Experience using SAP Global View or similar large-scale HR/payroll systems is advantageous.
  • CIPP qualification is preferred but not essential; willingness to pursue further professional development is encouraged.
  • Proven ability to analyse existing processes critically with a view towards continuous improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build effective business partnerships across multiple teams.
  • Experience supporting system implementations or software updates related to payroll functions would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of expatriate payrolls or PSA/P11d processes would be an advantage.
