Policy Lead Associate – Redress

Division – Cross-Cutting Policy & Strategy

Department – Redress & Reporting Policy

Salary – National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranging from £59,100 to £69,000 and London £64,900 to £76,000 per annum (Salary offered will be based on skills and experience)

The Organisation – The FCA regulates the conduct of 45,000 firms in the UK to ensure our financial markets are honest, fair and competitive. The team sits in the Redress & Reporting Policy Department within CCPS. Redress owns and advises across the FCA on policy requirements to ensure firms put things right for financial services consumers when things go wrong, whether through complaints or compensation when a firm owes redress liabilities. The team manages the FCA’s relationship with the FOS and FSCS and is responsible for Claims Management Company sector policy. Current priority work includes modernising the redress framework, preparing for a possible consumer redress scheme, managing a potential large-scale redress event in motor finance, and delivering a revamped complaints reporting system to improve data quality from firms.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Manager in overseeing team activities, allocate tasks, track deliverables, and motivate colleagues to achieve high-quality performance

  • Line manage 2-3 associates, provide coaching and mentorship to junior colleagues while supporting the team’s development and performance

  • Influence team and department strategy while leading relationships with key external and internal stakeholders

  • Proactively share knowledge across the team and act as an escalation point for complex issues

  • Lead policy proposal development, high-quality policy papers, and external communication for public consultation

  • Oversee the provision of quality policy advice to supervisors, firms, consumers, and industry bodies

Which skills are required?

Minimum

  • Prior significant regulatory experience in financial services and/or other sectors

  • Proven experience delivering complex projects or initiatives with multiple stakeholders in challenging environments

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to distil complex issues into succinct messages for a variety of stakeholders

Essential

  • Proven experience dealing with complex policy issues relevant to consumer protection in regulated industries

  • Ability to analyse large amounts of complex information, identify key themes, draw conclusions and develop/implement strategies

  • Strong management capability (e.g., project management) to plan, prioritise and allocate work within the team

  • Ability to work independently, use sound judgement and escalate issues appropriately

  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills; able to build relationships with senior management, other regulators and staff at all levels

  • A curious and inquisitive mindset with ambition to deliver in the public interest
