About The RoleBalfour Beatty is currently seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join their Power T&D team. Background does not have to be within High Voltage Power; delivery of construction design management is transferable. The role focuses on geotechnical delivery for Power T&D projects, with particular emphasis on Overhead Line (OHL) foundations.Role purpose is to take responsibility for the design delivery and design suitability for works across Power T&D construction projects, collaborating with project teams, designers and subcontractors to deliver safe and suitable scope of works aligned with project objectives. Provide constructability and sequencing advice for civil design and temporary works for the Power T&D business. Provide geotechnical support across PT&D workstreams. A flexible working policy supports a healthy work-life balance.What you'll be doingKey AccountabilitiesLead and fulfil management responsibilities of a section of the Geotechnical and OHL foundation design team.Undertake the design and coordination of foundation and geotechnical designs for OHL, Cabling and Substation projects from feasibility through detail design, installation, and support the in-house temporary works design team where required.Ensure timely delivery and quality of OHL foundations and geotechnical designs; prepare reports, calculations and drawings compliant with required Client and national standards (BS/Eurocodes/ENA).Understand client requirements, including unstated ones, and contribute to robust pricing and design delivery solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesAssess and identify design and temporary works requirements for each project.Drive a Safety by Design approach at all times.Lead civil designs including reinforced concrete design and detailing, ground risk assessments, tower capacity assessment, site design and enablement, slope stability assessments and specification/management of geotechnical works.Maintain CDM compliance and other legal/regulatory requirements related to the team's design outputs.Perform technical quality assurance reviews and provide design approvals as required/permitted by the Chief Engineer.Collaborate with other design team elements for multi-disciplinary projects.Assist in managing the tender process, interpret scope of works and provide advice.Mentor and upskill team members with good engineering practices.Support engineering design delivery with focus on upskilling and software use; contribute to design aids, computer programs and analysis of new concepts.Support colleagues in delivering suitable design drawings and help determine team objectives, strategy and requirements.Skills RequiredManagement experienceDegree-level education in civil or geotechnical engineering; formal trainingChartered Engineer preferred (ICE or IStruct)Strong post-graduate experience in civil engineeringExperience supervising sub-consultants or subcontractorsProven design experience in civil engineering worksStrong management of civil/geotechnical design projectsIT literacy (Word, Excel, CAD)Extensive geotechnical design experienceExpertise in Tekla TeddsGood knowledge of Eurocode and British standardsWhy work for usOur teams deliver UK infrastructure projects that support national economies and communities.
