RPS, a Tetra Tech company, is looking for a Principal Hydrogeologist to be based within the UK, preferably at their Bristol, Cardiff or London offices.

Role Overview

As a Principal Hydrogeologist, you will take ownership of delegated projects, managing time, resources, and finances effectively. You will support colleagues in the management of larger-scale projects, ensuring deliverables meet client expectations and are submitted on time. This role requires project management skills, technical expertise, and good communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a hydrogeology leader within the team to assist in the development of both creative and scientific solutions to projects
  • Mentor and support colleagues on hydrogeological matters arising via day to day project work
  • Lead and manage delegated hydrogeological projects, ensuring efficient use of time, resources, and budgets
  • Assist senior colleagues in delivering hydrogeological project deliverables aligned with expectations and deadlines
  • Communicate effectively with project peers, seeking assistance when necessary to maintain project quality and progress
  • Prepare technical inputs for client proposals, including data assessment and summarization
  • Support public consultations by preparing materials, attending public events, and monitoring committee hearings as required
  • Assist senior team members with tender submissions
  • Manage your workload to avoid overcommitment and ensure balanced project responsibility
  • Demonstrate project management principles, especially when leading small to medium-sized projects, ensuring timely, on-budget, and high-quality completion
  • Oversee monthly financial billing and reporting for projects under your leadership, providing support for larger projects as needed
  • Maintain strong file management and organisational practices throughout all projects
  • Undertake research and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legal acts, legislation, regulations, policies, and guidelines applicable to hydrogeology

Who We Are Looking For

  • Proven experience in hydrogeology with a strong track record of project leadership
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK hydrogeological legislation, regulations, and best practices
  • Good project and financial management skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • Good organisational skills with sufficient attention to detail in report writing and documentation
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines efficiently

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s/Doctoral degree in a related field
  • Chartered Engineer or close to attaining Chartership
