Interim Research Manager (18-Month Contract)

Location: Edinburgh (Hybrid Working)

Duration: 18 months

Daily Rate: £253.07, inside IR35

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Research Manager to join the Policy and Research team of one of our Public Sector organisations on an interim basis. Reporting to the Policy and Research Team Leader, you will play a key role in managing and delivering high-quality research outputs that inform policy and decision-making.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Research Delivery (20%)
  • Manage and execute a series of research reports as part of the internal research and analysis team.
  • Line Management (15%)
  • Provide leadership and guidance to 3 x Research Officers.
  • Stakeholder Engagement (15%)
  • Build and maintain relationships with the legal stakeholders and other members of the organisation to respond to research needs.
  • Qualitative Analysis (15%)
  • Use tools such as NVivo for qualitative analysis. If unfamiliar, demonstrate willingness to learn quickly.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team, supporting staff new to research and ensuring smooth project operations.
  • Contract Management (10%)
  • Oversee research contracts, liaise with academics/researchers, and arrange publication of reports on the Inquiry website.
  • Evidence-Based Reporting (10%)
  • Provide summaries, recommendations, and reports to policy colleagues and senior Inquiry members.
  • Ability to work independently, managing competing priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to influence decision-making on complex issues.
  • Strong analytical skills to critically evaluate information and extract key insights.
  • Extensive experience across all phases of research: design, implementation, analysis, and dissemination, including team leadership.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant social science, public health, or related field with a strong emphasis on qualitative research methods.
  • Practical experience in applying qualitative research techniques.
