Overview
Senior Advisor - Future Agriculture - Environmental Land Management (ELM) role. The Environment Agency is committed to an inclusive workforce and diverse teams. This position supports the reform of agricultural policy and spending, moving from CAP to ELM schemes, delivering public goods in return for public money, and influencing the design and delivery of incentives within the wider context of the EA2030 strategy and government targets for water, environment and climate.
Responsibilities
- Provide advice in meetings, manage commissions, and oversee programme milestones.
- Identify future risks and resource requirements; work with senior leaders across teams and organisations to articulate a scheme that supports and delivers outcomes.
- Contribute to the delivery of Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT) products and continuous improvement of ELM schemes through design and delivery.
- Influence the design and delivery of incentives within the wider response to government reviews related to water, environment and regulatory reform.
- Join an agile, fast-paced, flexible and collaborative team within the Nature & Place Directorate, National Agriculture and Land Team.
Experience and qualifications
- Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential.
- Politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills.
- Understanding of environmental sensitivities associated with significant agriculture sector reform.
- Experience interpreting/evaluating evidence to propose effective risk-based solutions for challenging problems.
- Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work; self-starter who actively develops and advances ideas.

Working arrangements
You will have an EA Office base location, with a flexible/hybrid working pattern in England. The role is national; some travel and occasional overnights are required. We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel.
Applications and selection
Applications are blind assessed against competency questions. Interviews are expected to be conducted via MS Teams two weeks after the closing date. A reserve list may be held for up to 6 months.
