Senior Advisor - Future Agriculture - Environmental Land Management - 31666

Overview
Engage with Defra, delivery bodies and the agriculture sector to influence the design and delivery of Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes, with a focus on Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT). Deliver key CSHT products for the Farming and Countryside Programme and contribute to continuous improvement of the scheme to support our EA2030 strategy and government targets for water, environment and climate.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice in meetings, manage commissions, and oversee programme milestones.
  • Identify future risks and resource requirements; work across teams and organisations with senior leaders to articulate a CSHT scheme aligned with outcomes.
  • Influence the design and delivery of incentives within the wider context of regulatory reform and government reviews related to water, environment and climate.
  • Deliver and continuously improve CSHT products in the Farming and Countryside Programme.
  • Contribute to the Environment Agency’s response to policy developments and strategic work related to agricultural reform.

Experience/Skills Required

  • Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential.
  • Politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills.
  • Understanding of environmental sensitivities related to significant agriculture sector reform.
  • Experience interpreting/evaluating evidence to propose risk-based solutions for challenging problems.
  • Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work; self-starter who actively develops and advances ideas.

Location and Working Arrangements
EA Office base location but flexible/hybrid working in England is available. Some travel/overnights may be required. We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel.
